Physical therapists are movement experts who can help you get to the root of any underlying issues that may be preventing you from moving and functioning at your best. Why should you consider in home or mobile physical therapy? Wouldn’t it be hard to get the same experience as in a clinic setting? Don’t you need a lot of exercise equipment and machines for that? Don’t you have to be really sick or homebound to qualify? The answer to all of these is no. Let’s dive in to find out why!
What Is Mobile Physical Therapy in Peachtree City?
Mobile physical therapy, also called outpatient physical therapy in the home, is where a physical therapist comes to your home or work to provide rehab, recovery, or personal training services in order to help you reach your goals.
It can be for pain relief in muscles or joints, injury or surgical recovery, and is also ideal if you have chronic pain or a neurologic condition that makes it difficult to leave your home for any reason or someone who needs help with a targeted exercise program for a condition.
How Does Mobile Physical Therapy Work?
It works similarly to you visiting a clinic for care, but there are overall less hoops to jump through. In our practice, we have an initial phone consult in order to begin your healing journey. We know that the best care plan starts with us listening to you and hearing your whole story.
We are movement experts with significant training in anatomy, but we recognize that your lived experience is just as important when it comes to crafting the right plan of care.
After learning your story, we come to meet you for care in a place that is convenient and perform a movement assessment. This involves…
- Discussion of your goals and any other questions or history not addressed prior
- Thorough assessment of all possible involved body regions through posture, flexibility, and strength measures. We do a deep dive to see how your body is moving as a whole which allows us to get to the root of the problem. Many practitioners only look at one body area.
- Hands on assessment and treatment of soft tissue and joints in order to determine areas of restriction on the treatment table we bring.
- Movement assessment of you doing tasks that are difficult in your own space
Once we establish problem areas, we are then able to provide personalized, hands on treatments and give you specific exercises or movements to reinforce the changes made. We show you how to use household objects or equipment we provide to get the job done.
How Is Mobile Physical Therapy Better Than In Clinic Care?
1. You Don’t Have To Drive To a Clinic
This is great for someone who has a chronic condition that makes it difficult to move around. It’s also ideal for busy moms so they don’t have to get everyone ready and in the car or worry about a babysitter. It’s also perfect for someone who had surgery and is on pain medication. No finding a driver or having to stop taking your pain meds so you can drive. Ouch… The physical therapist also brings all of the needed equipment for your session to you. They can even show you how to utilize objects that you already have around your home to help you reach your goals.
2. You Always Get the Therapist’s Full Attention
The sad reality is that these days due to decreased reimbursement for care, most therapists are forced to see multiple patients an hour, and most of your session might actually be done with a tech. Or worse, there is no one supervising your exercises closely. Unfortunately, this can make it hard to know if you’re doing the movements correctly or what the benefits of the exercises are. It is key to know if you’re feeling it in the right place, and how to modify if you start feeling pain. With mobile physical therapy, this means that you get the full time so all of your questions get answered every visit. We always give you a solid plan to execute before next visit. Spoiler alert: You won’t be doing the same exercises over and over, and what you’re doing will actually make sense with your daily routine.
3. Time Is Your Most Precious Resource
It is the one thing that is truly nonrenewable in this life and you cannot make more of it. We help save you some by bringing the clinic to you. You only have to be ready about 5 minutes before we arrive, meaning you have more time to do life and get the care you need. We also show you how to best perform your exercises in your home in a way that works for you so it takes out the time and guesswork needed to get into your routine. This takes out the barrier of trying to figure it out and leads to more consistency, which then leads to better results. Sounds good, right? We think so too. Additionally, we update your program and assess your progress each visit. By making all of these changes in real time every visit, this means you get the results quicker.
4. Treatment is more specifically tailored to you
We see exactly where your issues are in performing your daily activities at home and are able to help you problem solve through them versus you coming to a clinic and us having to set up a simulated environment. We can help you set up your environment in a way that is going to promote your success and healing. You don’t have that option when you visit a clinic. When we explain the exact reasons and the why behind your home program and watch you do it in your home, it helps you to follow through and develop the new habits that are needed for your long-term success. No more cookie cutter exercises that you aren’t sure are going to get you results.
5. You’re in an environment that is comfortable for you
There are fewer distractions from other patients, ringing phones, and bright lights. We are able to come in and create a safe space for you. It’s familiar and you’re better able to relax. There isn’t room for other eyes on you or judgment from anyone else while you exercise. Having mobile physical therapy leads to less stress overall around the therapy experience, and this often gets you better results. All of these factors lead to you getting your treatments consistently which results in getting you back to doing life on your terms again more quickly.
As you can see, there are a number of reasons why in home or mobile physical therapy may be the right fit for you. Our clients have gotten back to the gym, running, yoga, picking up their kids without pain, and even being able to walk again after not being able to without help for a number of years. We are typically able to get results more quickly and with fewer visits than a typical clinic because of our unique model.
