A prescription is not required for physical therapy to be seen for treatment UNLESS you have already seen a doctor for the condition that we will be assessing.
Typically though, there is no need to see an orthopedic and wait for an appointment. Give us a call, and we can do a screen either over the phone or in person to quickly determine if your injury is severe enough to warrant an Xray to rule out fractures before we can begin treatment.
If you already have a referral from a medical doctor, we will be happy to coordinate care with your physician.
*A referral is not needed for Assisted Stretching, Total Body Massage, or Fitness Services as these are considered wellness services and do not fall under a physical therapy plan of care.
- Physical Therapy Evaluation: For an individual seeking care for an acute or chronic injury that is significantly impacting daily function. The purpose of these sessions is rehabilitative in nature to create a specific plan that allows for healing of an injured area. (Requires a physician referral after 3 weeks of care.)
- Assisted Stretching: For an individual dealing with areas of repetitive tightness that don’t seem to go away no matter how much you stretch. This session addresses muscular tension from a physical and neurologic level to allow for optimal performance and mobility. Sessions focus on the neck, back, shoulders, and hips.
- Total Body Massage: For self-care; seeking stress and headache relief, muscle relaxation to deal with knots, improve general posture, flexibility, and range of motion for overall wellness. Perfect for relief after working at a desk all day or for sports recovery
- Modalities: hot stones, cupping, assisted stretching, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization/scraping, myofascial release techniques, and breathwork
Our typical rule of thumb is if you have had a traumatic event, including a serious fall, motor vehicle accident, or are unable to bear weight on the affected area, then we would prefer you get imaging with an Xray to rule out a fracture prior to starting care with us.
If you have questions or are unsure, feel free to give us a call or text to discuss what happened. We will be able to provide clarity on the best next steps.
Barring any severe traumas, it is typically more cost-effective to see a physical therapist prior to an orthopedic. As a doctoral-level trained physical therapist, we perform an extensive movement exam that can help us diagnose which tissues are affected and give you action steps to start feeling better the same day. No waiting weeks for a 15-min appointment with a physician where you are typically only given pills or an injection and then made to wait for imaging when you could be moving your way toward recovery sooner.
By law, your physical therapist cannot provide a medical diagnosis but can diagnose movement impairments; however, we have specific training to know when imaging is necessary in a given case.
Please wear comfortable and loose fitting clothes to be allowed to move freely during your sessions. We will be bringing our equipment, including a treatment/plinth table. This usually requires about 10 sq ft of space. A living room, bedroom, or even outside patio works best. Complete your New Client Paperwork prior to your first session, which can be located HERE. This paperwork gives us a thorough medical history, your goals for treatment, allergies, and your limitations at this time.
Our initial visit is 60-75 mins where we evaluate your functional movements, get to the root of your problem, and come up with a plan to correct it.
Our thorough exam includes:
- Discussion of how the problem is impacting you daily
- Perform a thorough exam to get the right diagnosis
- Evaluate your muscles for tightness or weakness
- Evaluate your joints for proper alignment and mobility
- Assess movement patterns and quality to identify compensations
- Ergonomic assessment of your home environment
We also take into account other health factors or conditions that are impacting you. We then give you a detailed explanation of the problem and provide tangible steps you can take that day to begin recovery.
Treatments include:
- Assistive stretching
- Physical therapy massage (manual therapy)
- Cupping
- Joint mobilizations
- Strengthening exercises
With our hands on treatments on the first day we set the groundwork for overcoming compensations and training proper functional movement to break the cycle and build a more resilient you for the long-term.
You will also gain access to our app that includes resources, education, and daily exercises, eliminating the guesswork of what to do next. Additionally, you gain 24-hour access to both of us for any questions via text.
Our clients are usually seen 1-2 times/week initially and then visits are spaced out to about once a month once we reach the strengthening phase and you are comfortable completing your program. We have multiple treatment options and can create custom packages to fit your desires and budget.
